Kate Larkin

Dr Kate Larkin is Director at Seascape Belgium and her work in the SOPHIE project focuses on the Policy Review.

She has over 10 years’ experience working in the European marine science landscape, primarily as a knowledge broker connecting marine science and ocean information with policy, industry and wider society.

Kate has a PhD in marine science (specifically benthic ecosystems) and extensive experience working in scientific management and knowledge exchange at both the UK’s National Oceanography Centre and the European Marine Board Secretariat.

At EMB, Kate coordinated scientific foresight and science-policy dialogue in diverse areas including deep-sea ecosystems and conservation management, the blue economy, marine research infrastructures, ocean observation, as well as development of the wider European Ocean Observing community.

She holds diverse experience in European projects and initiatives including:

• FP7 STAGES project
• FP7 EuroSITES
• H2020 AtlantOS
• H2020 ATLAS

As Deputy Head of the European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet), Kate is also involved with delivering and visualizing open access ocean data to marine stakeholders and wider society.
