Ciska Schets

Dr Ciska Schets is a Senior Environmental Microbiologist at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment in the Netherlands.

She holds a PhD in the microbiological safety of bathing water from Utrecht University.

Her research focus is on the microbiological quality of recreational waters, including the public health effects and risk assessment related to swimming.

Ciska is the project leader of the recreational water research in her department and in charge of the research group that focuses on the department’s knowledge base.

She is involved in the process of the evaluation and revision of the European Bathing Water Directive and is a member of the European Microbiology Expert Group. She also participates in the WHO Recreational Water Quality Technical Advisory Group.

Ciska will be contributing to the Future Scenarios work within SOPHIE.
